United Way Suggests Donation As Gift To Others

The United Way of Lunenburg County is proposing a unique gift this holiday season. The group is asking residents to donate money to them in someone’s name. Coordinator Michael Graves says there are some glaring signs that people need help. He says, “The poverty rate in Lunenburg County is 16.5%; that translates to about 7,800 people living in poverty. The child povery rate is even higher than that at 19.9%, which means that is one in five.” The United Way of Lunenburg County has given over $176,000 this year for programs and organizations that help youth, families, and seniors. Graves says all donations remain in the area and help grow the county.
