Unplugging Is Good

Being in the media, this probably isn’t something I should be recommending, but this year in particular, it’s not a bad idea. Unplug. Get away from us for a while. All of us. Television, radio, print, computers, smart phones… the works. I’m starting to believe there is such a thing as being too connected.

Not that I think being out of touch is a good thing. But getting away from it all for short periods really has never been a bad idea. This year, even more so. Or it least it felt that way to me.

I took two weeks and basically shut down. Normally, I would at least keep current on news and the like, even while on vacation. This year, not so much.

Two weeks totally away from anything Covid. Two weeks away from anything remotely political. Two weeks away from everyone else’s problems demanding to be my problems.

Honestly, I was tempted to stretch it longer, but the two weeks felt pretty good. At first, I felt a bit guilty. Shouldn’t I be keeping up to date on the pandemic and all the political scandals and stupid things politicians say on a regular basis?

You know what? The two weeks went by, and all I did was relax. The world did not come to an end. Although if it had, as long as I got to finish out my vacation, that might be okay, too.
