UPDATE: Take Back The Riverbank Construction

There is a giant hole on King Street in Bridgewater.

But don’t panic, it’s part of the Take Back The Riverbank construction that will be going on all summer.

Major construction began downtown almost three weeks ago bringing traffic down to one lane between Duffrin Street and the old bridge.

It has caused some headaches for drivers in the area.

And, Patrick Hurtle, Downtown Communications Coordinator says, it won’t be over any time soon.

“This is a long term project,” he says. “Any time you’re doing something that involves getting underground and replacing that infrastructure and old pipes that are there it’s going to be several months, and we’ve been pretty straight forward about that.”

He says the first of three new pipes has been laid and work on the second is just beginning.

“They work with the deepest pipe first. So, the storm water pipe goes into the ground first. The, sort of, mid-range pipe will be the sewer pipe and the top level pipe will be the drinking water.”

Hirtle says things have been going smoothly so far.

He says King Street will continue to be a construction zone until early fall.
