UPDATED: Local Students Joining Global Protest On Friday

High school students will hit the streets this Friday, May 3, to send a message to all three levels of government.

They want less talk and more action and regulations to help slow the effects of climate change

Shelburne Regional High School student Evan Harris says they’re concerned about clear cuts planned for Shelburne County.

“They’re planning two, one in Clyde River and one in Allendale and there’s supposed to be 49. We want to try to get it to stop, so we thought this would raise awareness for it.”

He says they’ll leave the school just after lunch on Friday.

“So, like 1:20. We’re planning to walk down to the community centre, stay there for about 20 minutes, and then come back around 2:30.”

Harris says the school is aware of the event and students have contacted other groups to join them to send a message to the province.

YCMHS students will walk out of Yarmouth High at 11 Friday morning and march to town hall to send a message that youth want politicians to urgently commit to renewable energy and environmental action.

Participants are encouraged to make carry signs and posters to carry during the march.

The events are part of the Global Climate Strike.

Students in over 100 countries are protesting climate inaction saying their governments have failed future generations by not cutting emissions and curbing global warming.
