UPDATE:Province And NSTU Returning To Negotiations

Hope for a resolution in the labour dispute between the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union and provincial government might still be alive.

The two sides have agreed to return to the table on Monday.

After several days of talks, with the help of a conciliator, the province released a statement late last night saying negotiations had broken down.

Education Minister Karen Casey said the union rejected their latest offer.

She says the proposed contract dealt with some of the classroom issues raised as well as wages and retirement bonuses.

According to the statement the conciliator concluded the two sides had come to an impasse.

Both sides have agreed to remain under a media blackout while negotiations are on going.
