Veteran War Stories Remembered During Government House Event

Lunenburg County veterans will be remembered during an evening at Government House.

The video, Time to Remember, features interviews with 18 veterans from World War II and will be shown to Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia and Mrs. Patsy LeBlanc.

The video was created by Royal Canadian Air Force Honorary Colonel Dan Hennessey of Newcombville.

Hennessey says it’s an honour to be asked.

“What this opportunity will give us is a wider audience,” says Hennessey.

“It will enable me to show more people the sacrifices that these men and women from right here in Lunenburg County had made for us so many years ago.”

He recalls comments from some veterans family members while shooting the video 10 years ago.

“That’s the first time mom or dad has ever told that story,” says Hennessey.

“For whatever reason, for that snippet of time they felt it was ok to share some of those memories. They didn’t share everything and you could even see some of the memories they shared were still very painful.”

The event will be held tonight and is open to the public but registration beforehand is necessary.

People can register online here or by calling (902) 424-7001.
