VIDEO: Beer Lovers Have A New Home In Bridgewater

A couple of Bridgewater guys are taking their passion downtown.

Firkinstein Brewery will open their first retail location on King Street on June 1.

Owners Adam Sarty and Devin Fraser have become fixtures, selling their brew at farmer’s markets around the South Shore.

Sarty says he’s excited for what the retail space will offer.

“We want the Firkinstein Brew Store to be the kind of place that if you have something to chat over with a friend, and you want to do it over a beer, come on in to the Firkinstein Brew Store. You sit around and enjoy the evening or enjoy the afternoon.”

Fraser says a passion for beer led the two men to convert his garage into a brewery.

“We had a dream and we slowly started to pick away. We went to the bank and begged for a little bit of money – the two of us. We got just enough to scrape, scraped enough to build a brewery.”

Demand now is so high, they have to add a second location.

But expanding is allowing them to offer something unique to Bridgewater.

They expect to produce more special one-off beers at their new shop, which they will feature on tap.

A couple of taps will be held to showcase other Nova Scotia microbreweries as well.

And of course, you can take away growlers full of whatever whets your whistle.

True to their origins, the pair will be doing as much of the renovations on the new building as they can.

Sarty says while they aim to open June 1, they will open sooner if they’re ready.
