Village Of Chester Considering Town Status

A Lunenburg County village is attempting to change its status to a town.

It’s a result of a fiscal review – recommending existing villages be phased out, become towns or amalgamate with their municipality.

Village of Chester commissioner Brenda Mulrooney says a request for proposals has been issued for a feasibility study on town status.

She says they want to keep their independance and control the direction they’re going in.

The province’s Utility and Review Board would decide if they can change their status.

The Village needs 33 per cent of electors to sign a petition favoring the move.
