Volunteer Fire Fighter Receives NS Award

A volunteer fire fighter in Mahone Bay is the recipient of this year’s Nova Scotia Volunteer Award.

For 27 years, Chris Wile has been fighting fires and organizing bingo nights to raise money for the fire department.

Wile says, it’s not about the recognition, but more about maintaining the heartbeat of the community.

“It’s gratifying. When people are at their very lowest and you come and pick them up and you try to help them as best as you can. And fundraising, I love just as much as anything,” said the humble Wile.

In fact, Wile says he hasn’t told anybody about receiving the award and will not be attending the ceremony in Halifax.

He’s too busy volunteering.
