Whalen Not Re-Offering For Provincial Politics

The province’s justice minister is stepping aside from politics.

Diana Whalen has announced she will not re-offer in the next provincial election.

Whalen has served as an MLA since 2003.

But, she suffered a heart attack in December and says “it’s a good time to make a change” because of her recent health issues.

Whalen is also Nova Scotia’s first deputy premier.

She will stay in her role as minister and deputy premier until the next election.

Premier Stephen McNeil thanked Whalen for her service and called her a “hard-working representative” and “a strong example for other women entering politics.”
