We’ve had a few April showers. Supposedly, these showers will bring flowers.
Not that I put a lot of faith in old song lyrics, but it is that time of year. We are starting to see a few things at least think about blooming.
And I’m not just talking about my rhubarb plants. On top of the flowers you might expect, like crocuses and snowdrops and even daffodils, the forsythia are starting to pop and I have a japonica that seems determined that yellow will not be the only colour in my yard. And a nearby magnolia is also ready to join the crowd.
But we are also about to see wild flowers over the next few weeks. I have heard the May flowers are starting. I haven’t seen any yet, but I might just go out and see if I can spot a few over the weekend.
Then it won’t be long before we see others join in. There are a lot of trilliums around where I spend time. And quite a few lady slippers. There are generally a patch of white lady slippers, although they have been getting fewer over the past few years. Hopefully, they come back this year. And I have heard rumours of yellow ones around some parts of the South Shore as well. And quite a few other wild orchids and other flowers to be seen over the coming weeks.
For now, I’ll be happy with a May flower hunt. Just for something to do in the late flurries we may have on the way.
