White Point Kicks Off 2017 With A Splash

A bold way to take the plunge into 2017.

On New Year’s Day, White Point will host their second annual Polar Bunny Dip – named after White Point’s iconic bunnies.

Donna Hatt says they started last year with 50 swimmers, but interest is so high they anticipate far more people will take the plunge this year.

Hatt says she hopes to see 150, as that number is significant.

“This year we’re inviting everyone to dress in red and white in honour of Canada’s 150th. We’ll have a giant Canadian flag, we’ll have some face paint to help people get into the spirit as well.”

Hatt says there will be a bonfire and hot chocolate for the participants.

“It’s open to anyone. There is no cost except bravery. You must have a good bankroll of bravery to jump in with us.”

She says the swimmers will honour Canada’s 150th birthday by forming the number 150 on the beach.

After grabbing a quick picture, they’ll be heading into the water around 3:30pm to bring in the New Year.
