It could be another month before the Wileville Fire Department is back in service.
It shut down in late March due to an ongoing audit to review administrative, financial and capital needs.
Mayor Don Downe says the municipality is determining what bills have been paid and any liabilities.
“Clearly, the way it has been handled there needs to be some changes. Nothing illegal, but maybe not quite as professional in some ways as it should have been.”
Downe says it’s important that departments pay their bills and keep track of financial statements.
However, he points out that they are volunteers and need help.
Downe says they may prepare a checklist – that will notify the department when bills are due.
He says they don’t want to see the department end up in this situation again.
