Witnesses Intervene To Stop Woman Driving Under The Influence

A woman was arrested for impaired driving after concerned citizens intervened.

At around 2:30 p.m. January 21, a concerned motorist called 911 after she witnessed a pickup truck with significant damage to its front end driving in the oncoming lane on Highway 325 in Maitland.

Lunenburg District RCMP responded immediately and found the driver had pulled off the road before they arrived and gotten out of the vehicle.

One witness took the woman’s keys from her.

She then attempted to flee the area on foot but police located her in a nearby gravel pit.

It was determined the woman hit a guy wire on a utility pole a short time earlier.

No one was injured during these incidents.

The driver was arrested and found to have a blood alcohol nearly twice the legal limit.

The 48-year-old Maitland was held in custody for several hours before being released.

She is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court to face impaired driving charges.

RCMP thanked the drivers who reported the woman as well as the witness who took her keys.
