Year Later: Farley Mowat Remains At Shelburne Wharf

An unwanted guest remains in Shelburne.

The Farley Mowat continues to be tied up at the wharf after arriving in the town last fall.

The derelict vessel sank in June, weeks after the town seized the vessel for unpaid docking fees.

Mayor Karen Mattatall says the saga goes on.

“If there was an easy solution, it would have been gone a long time ago. We didn’t invite them. We didn’t want them. However, we’re now stuck with a problem of how to get rid of this.”

Mattatall says a resolution was passed by the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities to push the federal government for clear legislation on derelict vessels.

However, she doesn’t see a solution coming in the near future.
