911 Dispatchers Recognized

911 dispatchers are a lifeline to police on the beat.

The RCMP want to pay tribute to dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week which runs until April 14.

In 2017, the Nova Scotia RCMP Operational Communications Centre answered 247,879 calls.

Of those, 93,557 were 911 emergencies.

Corporal Jennifer Clarke says when officers need anything, the dispatchers are right there.

“I am constantly impressed by the level of professionalism that we see from our dispatchers. You could tell them that the worst possible thing is happening and they remain calm and get you what you need. If we need an ambulance, fire department, whatever we need, they get it for us”

Clarke says throughout the week, information will be shared on social media about the unique role of dispatchers.
