The health authority announced the department will be closed much of this long weekend due to physician availability.
Karen Mattatall says she can’t believe that the employer would allow every doctor to have the long Thanksgiving weekend off.
She says she was dumbstruck when she heard about the closure.
“I couldn’t believe it. It’s absurd.”
Mattatall says she thinks there’s something else going on that disturbs her.
“Perhaps the reason that there isn’t a greater effort to recruit doctors for Roseway is that once our new clinic is built, if that happens, that there will be no ER, so there’s no need. i don’t know if that’s true but I certainly have to wonder if that’s the case.”
Mattatall also says it’s absurd that the Nova Scotia Health Authority refers to the closures as an ‘inconvenience”.
“That’s beyond insulting. An inconvenience is a closed store or a closed road or a closed bridge, it’s not a closed ER. That could mean someone’s life.”
