Bridgewater’s newest police dog has arrived from Frankfurt, Germany.
The 11 month-old shepherd will be partnered up with Constable Morgan Gibson.
The two are getting to know each other now before training begins next month.
Chief John Collyer says there is a special bond between a police officer and its dog.
“They work together, they live together, they become quite close. But, we have seen it over the years, unfortunately, that police dogs have given their lives for their partners.”
The dogs name is Davis in honour of Corporal Paul Davis, a Bridgewater native killed in Afghanistan.
Collyer says their current police dog offers ground search and rescue and tracking services.
He expects Davis will be trained in those areas and with other capabilities.
