Shelburne’s mayor says she’s hoping this is the light at the end of the tunnel for the Farley Mowat vessel.
A court order gives the ship’s owner, Tracey Dodds, until April 8 to remove it from the Shelburne wharf.
Karen Mattatall says a few engines are in the process of being dismantled and removed.
“My understanding is that the tow company that has been hired wanted those things removed to make the vessel easier to tow out of the harbour.”
She says work started over a week ago and hopes it will be finished by the deadline.
If not, Dodds will be fined $5,000 and could face up to 20 days in jail.
