Car Crashes Into Large Black Bear on Highway 103

You don’t hear about this everyday in the South Shore.

RCMP in Queens County were called to a crash on Highway 103 just before 11 a.m. after an east-bound vehicle hit a large black bear in Danesville.

Staff Sergeant Derek Smith says a 49 year-old woman was taken to hospital as a precaution with non life-threatening injuries.

He says the last collision involving a bear to his memory was roughly two years ago in the Chester area.

“Bears aren’t usually that common to see getting struck. We’re actually getting some complaints about bear on the side of the road down where the lobster truck overturned a couple weeks ago. This is a good distance away from that.”

The bear is believed to be injured.

The Department of Natural Resources has been notified and will be searching for the animal.
