A group of people are trying to bring a refugee family to Queens.
The Queens Refugee Care Team will hold their first public meeting on Wednesday night at Queens Place Emera Centre.
It will outline what the team hopes to accomplish and opportunities to volunteer.
Chair Sheila Redden-Smith says they are trying to help.
“We have families who have only the clothes on their back, many have fled their country, as you know. They have lost everything.”
The team has raised over $1,500 in five days.
Ottawa will cover the cost of the family’s expenses for six months and the team will be responsible for the remaining six months.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
