The event is held to remember the women who are gone and to support their families, still dealing with their loss.
Jeanne Fay is executive co-ordinator with Second Story.
She says the hanging of red dresses will be part of the ceremony.
“The women have gone but we will remember them and here’s a symbol. This empty dress, which reminds us that there were – almost 1200 now, aboriginal women and girls.”
Some of those names will be read at the vigil.
A smudging ceremony and a drum circle will also take place.
Fay says events like this are reminders that more needs to be done to prevent more indigenous women from going missing.
“The end of this horrible reality comes when non-aboriginal people, when the white majority stands up and says – enough.”
The vigil starts at 1:00pm on Sunday in the park behind the Lunenburg firehall.
