The future of horse-drawn carriage rides in Mahone Bay’s Father Christmas Festival is up in the air.
A man suffered minor injuries after one left the road Saturday afternoon when the horses got ”spooked.”
The carriage ran into a power pole, separating the wagon and throwing two handlers to the ground.
It proceeded into a grocery store parking lot and hit a few parked cars.
Festival Organizer, Barbara Feeney, says safety has never been an issue.
“We don’t know what we could have done that would have been more cautious and more caring to the people we were taking around on this trip.”
Feeney says they will re-evaluate if they will offer the wagon ride next year.
The police is reaching out to people who were on the carriage during the incident.
Feeney says the wagon holds about 20 people and she was told it was full at the time.
