Three major fires continue to burn in Queens and Annapolis Counties today.
The biggest, near Seven Mile Lake has burned more than 90 hectares and is still considered ‘out of control.’
Only a stones-throw away a wildfire near Maitland Bridge has destroyed almost 25 hectares.
The Department of Natural Resources Operations Manager Jim Rudderham says they’ve been making progress with that one.
“It’s about 70% contained by our crews, and they are hoping that by the end of the day they’ll have that 100% contained…but that doesn’t mean out, it jut means contained.”
A third fire in Greenfield has been under control since Saturday morning.
Rudderham says it will likely be several days before any of the fires are completely out.
Meanwhile, Highway 8 is expected to be closed 10 kms north of the Kejimkujik National Park main gate on and off throughout the day.
He says this will allow them to fly a water-bomber overhead and protect public safety when smoke reduces visibility.
Drivers are told to expect delays and find another route if at all possible.
Annapolis Co: Trunk 8 will be close throughout the day due to forest fire operations. Crews on site to direct traffic, expect long delays.
