Bridgewater Discusses Climate Change

If you feel like there are more bugs during the summer than there used to be you’re not alone.

Daniel Robinson, Bridgewater’s Summer Energy Coordinator says it was one of the top issues raised during a discussion on climate change last week.

“For instance a few years ago nobody thought about ticks, but now if you go on a two minute walk in your back yard you have to check for ticks. Because of the warmer weather and because of the shorter winters there are a lot more ticks than there used to be.”

Robinson says the goal of the discussion was to collect opinions to help Ottawa shape new environmental policies.

Bernice Theriault from the Community Energy Initiative says educating the next generation could be the key.

“Students don’t understand where their food is coming from. We need to help them understand how far this food is travelling to get to us and how much of an impact that makes.”

Theriault says they’re working with the school board on how to teach kids about climate change in practical ways.
