Shelburne: Barn Destroyed By Fire, Caused By Lightning

A storage barn has been destroyed by fire.

Firefighters in Shelburne were called to Wright Road around 10:30 Saturday night.

Deputy Fire Chief, Darrell Locke, says it appears lightning is the cause.

“The resident reported a very sharp flash of lightning then the barn was on fire. There was nothing suspicious there, everything leads us to believe that it was in fact struck by lightning.”

There was no livestock in the barn but a portable generator was among items lost in the fire.

Locke says the owners were shaken up.

“Just last year there was another lightning strike just across the road from them, so that shook them up to be the second strike in two years right there in that neighborhood.”

There were no injuries.

Nineteen firefighters knocked the fire down quickly, keeping it away from nearby trees.
