Dory Racers Fight For Spot On Canadian Team

Competitive rowers will be leaving it all out on the water this weekend.

Lunenburg will host their 66th annual qualifying dory races tomorrow morning.

Competitors are vying for a spot to represent Canada against the Americans in Gloucester, Massachusetts at the end of the month.

The Canadian Dory Racing Association’s Lisa Tanner says the environment is very exciting.

“The boats that are in the Harbour, the Bluenose II and some of the fishing boats, they all are manned. So, they blow their horns and the people are screaming – it’s a great atmosphere.”

Rowers come from across the province to compete in women’s, juniors, mixed and seniors categories.

Races begin at the Adams and Knickle wharf around 9:00am Saturday.
