The Municipality of Lunenburg is working to give local companies a leg up.
Mayor Don Downe says new rules will give businesses in Lunenburg county an advantage when work goes to tender.
He says they’ll be allowed a five percent higher bid without being disqualified.
“Some of these businesses will hopefully benefit from this,” he says, “to the extent where they’re just that much more competitive. So we just see this as a win-win situation.”
Downe says the municipality already uses local companies around 80% of the time.
He says the more they use local business, the better it is for the economy.
