Trunk 8 Reopens Following Wildfires

A section of Trunk 8 near Maitland Bridge is now reopened after it was closed intermittently due to wildfires.

The Department of Natural Resources says motorists should drive with caution as emergency vehicles are still along the highway.

Crews continue to dig out hot spots and extinguish flare ups at the fire at Seven Mile Lake.

The fires at and Ten Mile Lake in Queens, Maitland Bridge in Annapolis and Perch Lake in Pictou are being patrolled, but there is no fire activity.

All four remain 100 per cent contained.

Meanwhile, restrictions on travel and activities within the woods have been lifted for mainland Nova Scotia.

Due to the amount of rainfall, burning restrictions have also been lifted across the province.

It is now safe to have a campfire or burn brush.

However, all fires must be completely extinguished by 8 a.m.

The backcountry of Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site has also reopened along with Kejimkujik Seaside National Park.
