The closure of a local ballfield will affect at least one softball association this summer.
The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg announced last month they would be closing ballfield #2 at the MARC this season after it was significantly damaged by crows.
The 12 team Bridgewater and Area Mixed Softball League uses six fields for play including the three at the MARC.
President Patrick Hirtle says they are planning to make other arrangements.
“We’re going to find an alternate location,” says Hirtle.
“All of the games that were scheduled for MARC 2 this summer between our opening night Friday May 3 and the end of our season in mid-September will be relocated to another field.”
Hirtle says once another field has been secured, the rest of the league will be notified.
He adds he hasn’t seen a field closure quite like this.
“We appreciate the work the Municipality of Lunenburg has been doing to rectify the problem,” says Hirtle.
“We know that we’ve had issues with crows, particularly on field #2, for a couple of years and we applaud them for taking the initiative and finding a solution.”
At least three other softball groups use the MARC ballfields and could be forced to find an alternate location to fit their schedules.
