Liverpool Man Facing Numerous Charges After Giving Police Fake Licence

A Liverpool man is in hot water after he presented police with a fake international licence last week.

Liverpool RCMP were conducting routine patrols in the Liverpool area on Wednesday evening when they stopped a vehicle for erratic driving.

The driver handed them an international licence which the officers determined was fake.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke said officers see multiple licenses a day and are able to tell quickly if one is fake or not, but International Licenses aren’t commonly seen around Nova Scotia.

“I can tell you in 20-something years of policing I’ve seen probably less than 10 international licenses,” she said.

“They are definitely a little bit different looking than what we are used to. However it is important to know there are different versions of them around and we need to be aware of them.”

The officers found the driver was prohibited from driving and had bought a fake Australian licence online.

He was arrested on scene and given a breathalyzer, which indicated he had drank but was under the legal limit.

The driver is facing a charge of Driving While Prohibited under the Criminal Code, as well as three Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act offences of:

– Displaying fictitious licence
– Driving motor vehicle without motor vehicle liability policy
– Operating motor vehicle without valid driver’s license.

He is expected to appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on both March 3 and March 13. No names have been released.
