A massive fire at the Agricultural Campus of Dalhousie University in Bible Hill, near Truro last (Wednesday, June 20th, 2018) night.
According to numerous reports, the blaze broke sometime around 10pm.
A South Shore native and graduate of the Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus in 1998, tells Acadia News she was driving home to New Ross from Moncton last night, when she noticed flames shooting from one of the buildings.
“I was driving home from Moncton around midnight when I passed through Truro, I just drove by on the highway and you could see the flames from the highway,” says Hirtle.
She says it appeared to be the Cox Institute, a large building on the main part of campus, that was on fire.
“It’s not the theatre, it’s a facility with classrooms; it would have housed the chemical labs, biology labs, those sorts of things,” adds Hirtle.
Hirtle, who grew up in West Northfield and now lives in New Ross, says it’s a shame to see this happen to her Alma Mater, a place she feels close to and a place she formed life long friendships.
The cause of the fire remains unclear at this point.
