Bay Ducks Junior ‘B’ Hockey Team Moving To Liverpool

Junior ‘B’ hockey is coming to Liverpool. The general manager of the Bay Ducks of the Nova Scotia Junior ‘B’ Hockey League confirms the team is moving to Queens County after spending the last nine years in St. Margaret’s Bay. The club will play out of Queens Place Emera Centre and is hoping to have their home games scheduled for Saturday nights. Dave Bennett says they’re excited about the upcoming move. He says, “We’re excited, the kids are excited at this particular point, they wanted to stay together and this gave them the opportunity for next year and Liverpool, I think, will be really pleased with the hockey team they’re going to get, they’re a great group of kids, but everyone is excited about it and I think it could be something special.” Bennett says financial woes and low sponsorship are reasons for the move to Liverpool. Bennett says preliminary plans are to practice in St. Margaret’s so kids can stay focused on school and travel to Liverpool on game days. He also expects the team to change their name, but doesn’t know all the details on what they may be called. He hopes people in Queens and neighbouring counties will support their club and help them get to the Don Johnson Cup as one of the top teams in the Atlantic provinces. Meanwhile, the mayor of the Region of Queens says it’s exciting news to have Junior ‘B’ hockey coming to the area. Christopher Clarke says it’s another boost for Queens. Clarke says, “We’re very excited. We think we’re going to see some great hockey this winter and it’s really good news, both for Queens Place Emera Centre and the community as a whole.” Clarke says it will provide an economic gain for Queens because he expects people to travel to Liverpool to watch games and spend money in the community.
