Bonny Lea Farm Hoping For Another Group Home

There is hope a group home for aging people with intellectual disabilities can be built in the Chester area. Members involved with Bonny Lea Farm expressed the need for a facility sooner rather than later. Provincial research in 2008 identified there could be an issue in 10 to 15 years. However, Managing Director David Outhouse feels the need is now. He says, “I’m going to suggest to you that the issue is on their doorstep now, it’s not going to be 10 or 15 years down the road. If we just look at the population of the people we support within our programs, close to 40 per cent of those folks are 60 years of age or older.” The group hopes to bring officials with the Department of Health and Wellness and Community Services together in the next six months to talk about a plan moving forward.
