Christmas Tree For Boston To Be Given Sendoff In Halifax

This year’s Christmas tree for Boston has been cut and readied for send-off from Antigonish County. Environment Minister Randy Delorey was one hand yesterday to thank tree-owners John and Ethel Ann MacPherson of Purlbrook for donating the tree. The tree has begun its trek to Boston as Nova Scotia’s annual thank you gift for Boston’s help after the 1917 Halifax explosion. The white spruce is 13 metres tall and about 55 years old. The tree will make a short stop in Halifax late this morning for a public send-off ceremony in front of city hall.
