The Town of Bridgewater is applying for an injunction against the South Shore Regional School Board.
Mayor David Mitchell says the goal is to stop preparations to move students from Bridgewater Junior Senior High to Park View until a judicial review is complete.
He says council is trying to do what’s necessary to help the town heal and move forward.
“I’m the mayor of a town that’s divided,” he says, “We’re wounded. So, for us the judicial review has to happen, and then if there were another review it would remove that doubt on the decision.”
The town’s lawyer is scheduled to make a motion in Nova Scotia Supreme Court for the judicial review on December 20.
Mitchell says he’s still hopeful that discussions with the school board will bear fruit.
But, he says, until it does, an injunction should at least delay the move for a year or so.
No one from the school board was immediately available for comment.
