Bridgewater: Arena Closure Affecting Minor Hockey Association

Fewer practices, tournaments and increased costs.

Those are a few things the South Shore Minor Hockey Association are dealing with following the closure of the Bridgewater Memorial Arena.

President Mike Conklin says practice times start at 4 p.m. most of the week, creating a tough schedule for parents.

“Parents are starting to realize that with the closure of the old arena, practice times won’t be as easy to get to as they were in the past.”

Conklin says they will host one tournament this year, compared to six last season.

He says those generate money for the association and could mean rising costs for registration in the future.

The arena closed at the end of August due to an estimated deficit of over $170,000 a year.
