Bridgewater Community Garden Opens For 6th Year

The community garden in Bridgewater is getting ready to plant its first crops.

Hodge Podge officially opened for its sixth season over the weekend.

Volunteer Ernie O’Neill says he’s seen the garden grow in the past six years.

“We’ve added four more beds here,” he says. “We’ve added–I forget how many Incredible Edible plots around town, planted 63 fruit and nut trees, and have added a pollinator garden.”

He says it has helped create a community of gardeners.

“The town is very supportive of what we’re doing and town parks that are putting in fruit and nut trees that available to everybody…it’s really good to be a part of it.”

O’Neill says growing your own food is becoming more popular because people want to know what goes into the things they eat.

He says it’s not too late if you want to give it a try, there are two plots still up for grabs.
