The Town of Shelburne is hoping this will be the year to complete a key infrastructure project on Hammond Street.
It includes a sidewalk built from George Street towards Roseway Hospital, repaving and widening the road and upgrading culverts.
Mayor Karen Mattatall says a sidewalk is needed.
“It’s a heavy traffic area and it is relatively dangerous to walk on the edge of that road.”
The town wanted to complete the work last year but did not receive money from the provincial or federal governments.
Mattatall adds they have resubmitted the project for funding.
“It’s quite a large project; the sidewalk being an important part of it but, it’s a very good project and we’re really hoping we get funding for it this year. People have been waiting a long time for this project to happen.”
Money would be provided from the New Building Canada program.
