Several recent snowfalls have made snow-clearing efforts challenging in Lunenburg County.
But, what about access to fire hydrants?
Every second counts in an emergency situation.
Bridgewater Fire Chief Michael Nauss says it can really tack on the time if hydrants are not cleared.
He adds, the town also monitors their calls and can provide direct assistance if a hydrant is unavailable.
It’s the town’s public works department responsibility to make sure fire hydrants are clear.
However, Nauss says people can also help.
“Any property owner that actually has a hydrant on their property, we ask that they shovel snow around them, about two feet around the perimeter, that allows us to get to them.”
There are 420 hydrants in Bridgewater – making it challenging for the town to clear them quickly.
Nauss says people can notify him if they clear a hydrant, so they can check it off their list.
