Bridgewater Gets Federal Funding For Upgrades To Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Town of Bridgewater got a boost from the federal government yesterday to get a much needed upgrade for their wastewater treatment plant.

The Government of Canada’s Clean Water and Wastewater Fund is contributing $750,000 to replace Bridgewater’s aging anaerobic digester gas storage cover.

That piece of equipment is key to keeping methane from escaping and is used for heating the treatment plant.

“What an anaerobic digester cover does is it enables us to capture the methane gas produced in the break down of the wastewater system,” says Richard MacLellan, CAO for the town.

The new digester will also have the ability to generate energy, something the town is considering.

“We leave no stone unturned when looking at energy efficiency or any innovative way to deliver services to the town,” says MacLellan.

The full cost of the project is estimated to be $1.5 million.

The remaining funds will come from the town’s capital budget.
