The third phase of a water and sewer project in Bridgewater will have to wait. The town decided to delay work on Empire Street until at least next year. The decision was made after three proposals to complete the work were well over budget.
Mayor David Walker says it’s a tough situation. He says, “It’s always been frustrating as long as I’ve been around council when you go to tender and you have what you believe is a pretty good estimate on the price, you know, it could be up a little, down a little but when it comes in significantly over budget, that is frustrating.” The town approved $452,000 to complete the project. The lowest bid was almost $170,000 over budget.
