Bridgewater Police Arrest Five Men For Public Intoxication

Public intoxication was a problem this weekend for police in Bridgewater.

Five men were arrested over the course of Saturday night into Sunday morning after having too much to drink.

Acting Police Chief Scott Feener says it’s a safety issue.

“People are staggering and they are falling out into traffic and walking in the road and stuff. That’s why our members apprehend and lodge people sometimes for their own safety, sometimes they’re escorted home or if they have a sober person with them they are allowed to carry on.”

Feener says the type of incident doesn’t occur much anymore.

“Years ago when the lounge and tavern were open and going full tilt, it was roughly the same. This was an abnormal Saturday evening with no major events gonig on.”

Some of the men face fines while three face charges for public intoxication.

Other charges laid include breach of probation, breach of an undertaking, impaired operation of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

They will appear in court at a later date.
