Bridgewater Police Battle Opioid Overdoses With Naloxone

Bridgewater Police are armed with a new weapon to combat accidental or opioid overdoses.

All Bridgewater Police Service staff members have taken an online course and been given the newly developed Naloxone spray.

Acting Police Chief Scott Feener says the spray counteracts the effects of drugs when an overdose occurs.

“We have administered it once at the cells in Cookville as a result of what was suspected to be an overdose which allowed paramedics to arrive at the cells and transport to hospital.”

Feener says the spray is administered through the nostril and has no adverse effects.

The province is in the process of purchasing the product for all police services in Nova Scotia.

Feener says they are trying to be proactive rather than reactive.
