Bridgewater’s Jenna Martin-Evans says it’s time to start thinking about another career.
The 28 year-old tells CKBW/CJHK News that she will retire from track and field after this season.
Martin-Evans reached the 2012 Olympic Games in London after winning the 400 metre title at the Canadian Championships.
She says it’s a bit surreal.
“It’s hard for me to wrap my head around it. I am looking forward to what’s after but I’m definitely going to miss it and it had to come to an end at some point.”
She needs to run the 400 metre event in 52.20 seconds to set an Olympic qualifying standard.
“I’m relaxed, I’m finally having fun with it so I’m just enjoying the process and you know, soaking it all in.”
Martin-Evans hopes people will watch her at Saint Mary’s University tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m to see if she can reach the mark.
Following Wednesday’s run, Martin-Evans will compete at the nationals in Edmonton between July 7-10.
She’s hoping to qualify for the Rio Olympics during these last two events.
