Burg Classic Benefit Hockey Tournament Back On The Ice

Hockey players will be taking to the ice for a good cause once again this weekend.

The 6th annual Burg Classic tournament will be played at the Lunenburg Arena.

Money raised from the event goes to people in the area who could use a hand.

One of the organizers, Kristi Strowbridge says the tournament really draws the community together.

“Just seeing the rink packed is really exciting. Seeing how excited everyone is to come together and celebrate and raise some money for some really great people.”

Strowbridge says money raised helps out people in the community immediately, but the committee also tucks some aside.

“We determine who will be recipients from the tournament but if there are folks that come across some challenges throughout the year we determine how we can best support them then as well.”

Strowbridge says in addition to the tournament money is raised through a dance, pub nights and family skates.

She says they took in over $24,000 in 2017 and expects Lunenburgers will match that generosity again this year.

Strowbridge anticipates their six year fundraising total will exceed $100,000.

The Burg Classic begins Thursday night and runs until Sunday.
