More Repairs Coming For Liverpool’s Water Treatment Plant

Water woes in Liverpool had residents scratching their heads this week.

But Region of Queens mayor David Dagley says the municipality has it sorted out.

Dagley says a large plastic intake pipe broke at the water treatment facility.

That caused water across town to be cut for most of Monday afternoon.

There’s still some discolouration in the water.

“It’s in our lines, some of which are 120 years old and although we flush on a regular basis twice a year, these types of changes to the water system do cause some discolouration.”

But Dagley says the water has been treated and is safe – there is no boil order in place.

Dagley says part of the automated system of the treatment plant has been compromised so more repairs are needed.

“The fallout from this issue is that some of the electrical equipment, which runs some of the automated portion of the water treatment plant, have been compromised and we’re in a process now of determining what has to be replaced.”

That means staff have to monitor parts of the plant for now.

The municipality says the fix is temporary and water will have to be shut off again in the future for further repairs.
