Bus Service Connecting Lunenburg County With Halifax Now Permanent

The number of bus trips being made to Halifax from the South Shore has been cut from three to one.

But that’s not a bad thing according to the United Way’s Michael Graves.

As part of the citizen’s committee responsible for establishing the Halifax Connector route, he says the previous six-month trial has shown the change will provide transportation where and when it is most needed.

“It’ll have stops in Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Bridgewater, Chester Basin Exit 9 carpool, as well as the Hubbards Mall and there’s four stops in Halifax that people can choose from.”

Graves says the bus, operated by Maritime Bus will leave Lunenburg County at 9:00am and turnaround from Halifax at 4:00pm daily.

He says the times made sense for both riders and the operator.

“It just gives people the opportunity to go to Halifax to shop, for appointments, if they have to go to a government office, if they have to get some medical tests done, that kind of stuff.”

Graves says the bus was averaging around 16 riders per day during the trial.

And combining those riders from three buses to one will save money for the operator.
