Canada Dealing With Blood Shortage

Canada is dealing with a blood shortage. Canadian Blood Services says they experiencing a notable decrease in donations heading into the summer. The inventory is currently at its lowest level in more than five years. Territory Manager Holly Sinclair says it’s due to a number of factors, including a rough winter. She says they are still impacted by clinics postponed due to weather and appointments not re-booked. Sinclair says they need to book roughly 33,000 appointments before the end of June to bring the blood supply in Canada back up to a safe level. For example, she says they have 235 spaces open for a three day clinic coming up in Bridgewater at the Days Inn.
