Canadian Federation Of Students Wants Free Tuition

The Canadian Federation of Students wants to eliminate tuition fees.

Charlotte Kiddell is the Nova Scotia Chairperson and she says education is becoming too expensive for all but the rich to attend.

Kiddell says entry level positions that once would be filled by high school graduates now require a four-year university degree

“Now a post-secondary degree is now the equivalent of a high-school diploma. So students deserve to be able to access that education for free as they do their high school education.”

Kiddell says because of high tuitions, indigenous, minorities, and people with disabilities as well as low-income families are being pushed out of colleges and universities.

“If we want to have for ourselves a nation that prides itself on being equitable and just, we need the public investment in universal post-secondary education.”

She says education is something society as a whole benefits from and should be funded accordingly.
